At their final concert of the season, Downtown Voices and NOVUS NY perform two folklore-inspired works written in 1937: Orff’s epic Carmina Burana and Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. Carmina Burana is based on 24 poems from the medieval collection of the same title, with themes that follow the fickleness of fortune and joy as spring returns. Inspired by Hungarian folksong rhythms, Bartok’s sonata has become a mainstay of piano and percussion repertoire.
Led by FTC Assistant Professor and Director of Vocal Music Dr. Marc Silverberg, The FTC Choral Festival features the Five Towns College Chamber Singers and the FTC Contemporary A cappella Group. They will be joined by choirs from Elwood High School, East Hampton High School, Centereach High School, and Wyandanch High School.
N.E. Voices is a two-day comprehensive festival experience in the Boston area for high school vocal ensembles and their teachers. The festival features dynamic performances, an optional competition, masterclasses, and workshops by experts in the field of contemporary a cappella. Founded and managed by high school teachers, N.E. Voices offers a festival experience that is educationally sound, affordable, and current with contemporary a cappella trends.
Founded in 2012, N.E. Voices is getting bigger and better every year. In 2019 we are excited to bring in top-notch performers and clinicians from all over the country.
Come sing along with Trinity ensembles in this concert that has quickly become a holiday tradition and highlight of the season. Choral music is woven into the fabric of Estonia—in a nation of 1.3 million people, there are more than 700 official choirs, and during the country’s quest for independence, choral tradition provided the backbone of the resistance. Voices Over Tallinn celebrates the music of Estonia—and the 100th anniversary of its independence—and pays homage to some of the most influential Estonian composers, including Tormis and Pärt. In Estonia, choral classics are as popular as modern “pop” music, and after you hear these performances firsthand, you’ll understand why.
This year’s guest artists are ForeFront (2016 International Barbershop Quartet Champions) and MO5AIC. The format of the event is in three portions: Friday night showcase, Saturday daytime festival, and Saturday evening concert. We are aimed at contemporary a cappella groups, but are also open to vocal jazz, madrigal groups, barbershop… you name it! We are open to individuals as well as groups of all ages (middle school, high school, collegiate, adult).Registered groups will receive one-on-one coaching from our amazing panel of clinicians. Masterclasses on a wide variety of topics will be presented during the day on Saturday, and there will be more performances than you can count! It’s the biggest, best weekend of educational a cappella in the USA!
